PLUS PROGRAM

PLUS utilizes three therapeutic components:

Behavior Management - The goal of this component is for the person receiving services to learn socially acceptable and adaptive techniques for dealing with real life situations and relationships. Activities that encourage behavior management include:
     Individual program goals
     Setting realistic limits
     Identifying social/behavioral expectations
     Scheduled reinforcement
     Practicing social skills

Coping Skills - The goal of this component is for persons receiving services to develop the skills necessary to meet disappointments, frustrations and crises in a positive and effective manner. Some activities used to develop coping skills:
      Identify and express emotions
      Build on successful coping experiences
      Establish a positive system for handling times of stress
      Teach positive alternatives for reacting to negative
      situations.

Sensory Programming - The goal of this component is for persons receiving services to explore a wide variety of tactile, motor, visual, auditory, olfactory and taste experiences. Typical PLUS sensory activities include:
      Christmas caroling
      Bowling
      Baking sweet rolls
      Soccer
      Roasting marshmallows
