HUB program

"HUB" - A center of activity or interest; a focal point. Re: American Heritage dictionary.

The HUB is Magic City's facility based day habilitation program and well earns it’s name as it is a busy and unique and fun area. The HUB offers day habilitation programs for those wanting to develop and expand their vocational skills as well as enhance daily living opportunities. Consumers choose their daily activities from a schedule that offer choices of activities each hour. Consumers may attend the HUB only to receive training on their goal, they may choose to attend a scheduled community outing or to participate in job development.

Consumers choose from daily life skills, vocational training, computer training, craft projects, academics, attending volunteer sites, safety training, human rights or any of the curriculum that offers 50 different subject areas.

Job development is a daily module at the HUB. Training is provided for identifying career interests, locating jobs, interviewing skills, developing work ethics and keeping a job. Training in individual interest areas is part of a developed curriculum followed at the HUB.

Staff to consumer ratio average is 1-5.

Man's Best Friend

In October 2009, Emmitt Elliot, and Camillia O'Brien became certified Canine Good Citizens.  Emmitt and "Cami" took this test in order to provide a therapeutic environment at the MCE Hub for all the participants there.

Emmitt Emmitt is a year old black lab mix.  Emmitt's favorite activities are running, licking and he seems particularly fascinated by horses.  Emmitt's shiny black fur is smooth and slick and he is a delight to pet.
Cami is a year old St. Bernard.  Cami's favorite activities are chewing on rawhides, exploring and snoring while sleeping on her back.  Cami's creamy
orange and white fur is soft and snugly to pet.

Emmitt and Cami are beginning the process to become official "Therapy
Dogs" through the Dog Therapy International beginning in January 2010.
Stay tuned as we add more canines to our MCE Canine Companions.
