MCE is a Non-Profit 501 C-3 Corporation that was founded in 1971 by the Cheyenne Kiwanis Foundation to serve adults with handicaps and developmental disabilities who live in Laramie County. Although services have changed over the years and have recently been expanded to include children, our philosophies and beliefs are still firmly based in services to the individual. Our programs are designed to help individuals live successfully in the community by supporting and building on their skills. Our programs also help them develop and refine new skills in employment, personal interaction, community awareness, social well-being and community living.
The Cheyenne Kiwanis sponsorship of Magic City Enterprises is unique among Wyoming programs. The Cheyenne chapter is one of the largest Kiwanis Clubs in the world and maintains approximately 440 members in a city of 50.000. This provides our program with a very broad basis of support among community leaders and businesses.
In 1988, Magic City Enterprises was awarded the finalist award for the Search of Excellence 88 by the J. M. Foundation. This is considered by many as the most prestigious award in the rehabilitation field and they rated our work program nationally as one of the top three work programs in the 1988 Search of Excellence. Other acknowledgments and awards include being selected by the University of North Carolina (a leader in supported employment) as one of the model supported employment programs in the country. We have also received numerous awards for "Outstanding Performance" from the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped. We have been certified by the national Commission and Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities since 1983.
