Magic City Voices is a self-advocacy group that meets weekly to discuss “how it’s going” with services at Magic City Enterprises (MCE). In order to provide the most quality services, MCE wants to hear from the participants at MCE regularly about how we can do a better job for them. Whether it is at the residence, at Day Habilitation or Community Employment, MCE realizes that our most important stakeholders are the participants at MCE.
At our weekly meeting, our elected participant President calls the meeting to order. MCE participants then begin passing the “voices” rock around taking turns discussing their issues, whether positive or negative and asking for follow up or help. When Magic City Enterprises Management meets each month, the suggestions and requests are discussed, split up between the team and tasks are completed. The MCE Program Director is responsible for bringing progress on the requests to the Voices meeting each week. Participants are able to see how their “voice” works and that what they have to say is important and heard by MCE staff.
Each June and December, MCE participants hold an election for their new president. MCE is striving to teach about campaigning, democracy and responsibility.
